British diplomat. Private secretary to Sir Edward Disbrowe at Stuttgart (1832); attaché at Frankfort (1833), Stockholm (1834), and Rio de Janeiro (1837); special mission to Paraguay (1842); secretary of legation at Stockholm (1843); envoy extraordinary and minister plenipotentiary to the Swiss Confederation (1854-1858), Hanover (1858-1859), and Württemberg (1859-1870; also accredited to Baden).
